About Us
Our studio is Danvilles oldest and most experienced institution in the art of dance. Its history traces directly back to 1933 when Miss Anne Boyer opened classes in Danville as an extension of the Tray-Boy School of Dance, Richmond, VA. In 1936 the school opened as Anne Boyer School of Dance.
Martha Fowlkes worked with Miss Boyer for many years until the latter’s retirement in 1973 when Mrs. Fowlkes assumed ownership and direction of the school. After consultation with Miss Boyer and with her agreement and support, the name was changed to Martha Fowlkes Academy of Dance in 1975.
In May of 2001 Martha Fowlkes retired and in June of 2001 Lisa Cash and Ann Pflugshaupt assumed ownership and direction of the school after twenty two years of teaching for Mrs. Fowlkes. It was then changed to Danville Academy of Dance.
In June of 2019 after much thought and consideration, Mrs. Ann and Mrs. Lisa, retired from teaching and the studio was taken over by longtime teacher Brittany Cody. The studio name was then changed to Brittany Cody Dance Company.

Brittany Cody Dance Company is committed to providing high-quality dance classes to enhance the overall development of the child. We provide a safe and child-centered environment to encourage our students to explore dance with qualified, nurturing teachers. We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image as they increase awareness of their physical being. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement.
